Rule No. 6 of 2010

Rules for Conducting Online Ph.D. Aptitude Test (PAT) for Admission to Degree of Doctor of Philosophy. WHEREAS, it is expedient to frame the rules in respect of conducting Online Ph.D. Aptitude Test (PAT) for admission to Degree of Doctor of Philosophy to be conducted centrally by the Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University and Designated Agency appointed by Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati. The Management council is hereby pleased to make the following rules:

  • These rules may be called “Rules for Conducting Online Ph.D. Aptitude Test (PAT) for Admission to Degree of Doctor of Philosophy”.
  • These rules shall be applicable to the candidate appearing for PAT for admission to Ph.D. Degree
  • These rules shall come into force with effect from the session 2010-2011.


 

  • 1) Definition :
    1. i) “University” means Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati.
      ii) “PAT” means Ph.D. Aptitude Test to be conducted centrally by Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University and Designated Agency appointed by Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati
      iii) “Designated Agency” means the agency appointed by Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati for conduct of Online Ph.D. Aptitude Test.
      iv) “Candidate” means student appearing for PAT Entrance Test.
      v) “Committee” means the committee constituted by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor for the purpose of conducting online Ph.D. Aptitude Test for the admission to Ph.D. degree from time to time.
      vi) “Question Bank Committee” means a Committee of experts for the preparation of Question Bank” suggested by the PAT Examination Committee and approved by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor.
    2) The PAT will be conducted by the University after every six months in the calendar year. The dates of examination will be decided by the University.
    3) The University shall be the authority for calling the application forms from the candidates desirous to appearing for Online Aptitude Test for Admission to Ph.D. Degree.
    4) All the application form will be filled only online on Designated Agency’s website and printed forms along with testimonials and Demand Draft drawn in favour of Registrar, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati payable at Amravati will be received in the office of the Designated Agency, shall scrutinized by Designated Agency and a statement shall be prepared showing all the particulars of the applicant. Designated Agency will publish the list of all eligible candidates of Ph.D. Test.
    5) Designated Agency will generate Roll Numbers and Admit Card of the Candidates.
    6) Designated Agency will provide only online admit cards to all candidates within time period.
    7) Designated Agency will make the question available online at random from the question bank to the candidates at the centre.
    8) The Examination will consist of One Paper of 90 Minutes duration based on General Research Aptitude Carrying 100 Marks and Containing 100 multiple-Choice questions based on Analytical Reasoning, Numerical Ability and Language Competency/ Computer/ Environment / Logical Reasoning, and Data interpretation i.e. General Research Aptitude or Equivalent Standards as per UGC guidelines for Ph.D.
    9) The question bank committee will submit 10 times more question of the question paper (Analytical Reasoning, Numerical Ability and Language Competency/ Computer)/ Environment/ Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation i.e. General Research Aptitude) for development of Question Bank. The Question Bank will be submitted to Designated Agency for Online Test after Moderation by the Entrance Test Committee.
    10) The Entrance Test will be online and will be conducted at examination centres proposed by PAT Committee and approved by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor. If required the online examination will be taken in batches and on subsequent days.
    11) PAT Examination committee shall make available sufficient computers with networking and Internet Facility for Online Examination.
    12) PAT Examination committee shall submit a list of Supervisors for approval of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor. The list of Supervisors will be approved by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor.
    13) The Supervisor will supervise the smooth conduct of Examination. There shall be one supervisor for every 20 students and thereof.
    14) The valuation will be done by software developed by Designated Agency.
    15) The valuation of answer will not be made by negative marking system.
    16) The Candidate will be declared successful if he/she secures minimum 50% of marks in the aptitude test.
    17) Passing of PAT will not exclusive criteria for admission to Ph.D. degree since the admission to the Ph.D. degree are regulated as per provisions of Ordinance No. 19/2009.
    18) The Aptitude Test will have multiple choice (i.e. a,b,c,d objective type) questions.
    19) Chairman and Other Committee members of PAT Examination Committee and other required ministerial staff will be paid remuneration as may be decided by the Management Council time to time.
    20) The list of marks obtained will be certified by Designated Agency and will be submitted to Chairman, PAT Examination Committee.
    21) Chairman, PAT Examination committee shall be responsible for smooth conduct of examination. No other person than examinee, supervisor and any such person as may be permitted by the chairman or member of the PAT Examination committee shall be allowed to enter the premises of the Examination Centre. Chairman PAT Examination committee take all necessary steps to ensure this.
    22) Remuneration will be decided by the Management Council from time to time.
    23) Candidate will have procured a Demand Draft of Rs. 500/- for Open Category and Rs. 400/- for Reserved Category (SC/ST/DT/NT/OBC) in favour of Registrar, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati.
    24) In case of any grievance from the candidate in this regard, the decision of Vice- Chancellor shall be final.

OBJECTS AND REASON
Earlier rules for entrance examination to Ph.D. Admission, Rule 8 of 2005 shall stand repealed with effect of this rule.
